Attention

If your Photo Cart is suddenly getting a 500 error or only displaying a blank page then you or your hosting company has updated the PHP (programming language) to PHP 7 which Photo Cart is not compatible with (and will not be compatible with) mainly because of the removal of the my_sql functions which are replaced with my_sqli functions.

You would need to have the PHP version downgraded to 5.6 in order for Photo Cart to work. If downgrading the PHP doesn't work then you may have to update Photo Cart to the last version of 7. Download Photo Cart 7 upgrade files. Upgrade instructions.

Photo Cart was retired in 2015. Check out Sytist.

I am using Breezebrowser and EOS for my current web site - i bought photo cart a year ago and sadly i have never had enough hours in the day to move to Photocart.... started to look at this yesterday and now i see Photocart wont be updated anymore....

So I am wondering should i just move to using photocart or should i upgrade to Sytist ... I want to give the end users the ability to post/share individual images on facebook/social media

I also have 12 years of images on my web site - all using BB and EOS - seems a nightmare thinking about this but any easy way to move these to photocart/Sytist??

appreciate any help/comments and thanks in advance

I would move to Sytist IF it has features that you can take advantage of not available in Photocart.

I would NOT migrate previous images into Photocart/Systist, I would start it clean. Moving them over would be far more time consuming than it's worth. I don't see a need to have images 12 years old, so moving them doesn't make sense. I am currently in the process of moving over to Sytist, and will only be moving the most recent clients proofs over. May be a 2 or 3. These are ones that have not yet ordered. Everyone else will stay with Photo Cart, which will remain available on the website.

You really have people that order images from 12 years ago?

They are two completely different systems. There is no magic easy button for this.

What I would recommend doing is use both. Continue to have your Breezebrowser available for the older stuff, and use Photocart/sytist for the newer stuff.

yes Sal i have people that order from years ago - i shoot mostly dogs and when the owners loose a pet they often buy all the older photos....

so what your saying is i would have my domain name resolve to the Sytist page and then have a link on this to the older BB photos right?

thanks

Yes, that would be the best way to do it. My opinion...

I agree with Sal, don't try to migrate all those photos over. If you can leave the legacy website in place and still receive orders, just put a link in the header or footer to the "archived photos". Otherwise it'll be an instant nightmare for you.

thanks Sal and Brian....I had hoped there would have been an easy way to at least put the last 3 years of images into Photocart or Sytist...

are you using photocart or Sytist? I bought photocart over a year ago and havent had time to migrate to it - so wondering whether to just upgrade to Sytist....

I have been using photocart for some time now. I think since 2007/08? I am working on updating the main website, and will be moving to Sytist. I am making the change for a few reasons, but the main ones are the responsive design and social networking. I think with the rise in mobile usage, a responsive website is important.

Check the comparison chart to see the differences between Photocart and Sytist: http://www.picturespro.com/compare/

If there are features that are important, and usefull to you. I'd make the switch.

sal, I made tons of custom CSS changes to my photocart to make it more mobile compatible. Check it out and let me know what you think. http://www.caliphotography.com I'll be glad to share the changes. *in theory* it's responsive for mobile and still allows purchasing. I can't migrate to sytist because there is no dave's uploader and my business flow doesn't work with doing it manually.
