Attention

If your Photo Cart is suddenly getting a 500 error or only displaying a blank page then you or your hosting company has updated the PHP (programming language) to PHP 7 which Photo Cart is not compatible with (and will not be compatible with) mainly because of the removal of the my_sql functions which are replaced with my_sqli functions.

You would need to have the PHP version downgraded to 5.6 in order for Photo Cart to work. If downgrading the PHP doesn't work then you may have to update Photo Cart to the last version of 7. Download Photo Cart 7 upgrade files. Upgrade instructions.

Photo Cart was retired in 2015. Check out Sytist.

Download this zip file

Inside that zip file is a "photocart" folder. Upload the contents of that folder into your Photo Cart folder overwriting the existing files.

There are many changes in the files to help with accented characters and mainly the way it is saved to the database. Previously they were saved incorrectly in the database then decoded when displayed. With the changes in these files, it will save them correctly in the database.

Now after you upload these files you will probably have some odd characters, but you should be able to re-edit them and then they should show properly.

Try to re-upload those files from the zip file. I suspect the didn't upload correctly or not all files were uploaded. Anyone else that have used those files didn't have any more problems with the French characters.

I'm having the same problem with Irish names. In the galleries any character that has an accent on it is replaced by a question mark, and in the shopping cart names with an apostrophe like O'Connor come out as O\\\'Connor.

I've tried running the replacement files twice but the problem persists

I tried 3 times to upload the new files and I still gets a LOT of troubles !!
Now my clients are NOT able to place an order!!! They does not see the prices anymore ;-(

Look at the screen shoot!

Is it possible to get a complete files set so I will delete the whole thing and replace with the new set to make sure I got the last version (I will backup my photos directory first!)

Thanks

Make sure in Customize > Text & Language -> Standard Words & status the language is set to on. And in Settings -> it is set for the default language.

I'm still seeing question marks replacing accented words and apostrophes after running the update. Do I need to change the default language from English? All other text on the site is in English

Did you download the zip file in my previous post?

If so, are you able to edit the words that are not displaying correctly and see if they save correctly?

Is that a sub gallery and if so, how did you create it or upload it? FTP?

Yes it's a subgallery. Created using IPTC upload in Dave's Uploader

EDIT - Looks like the problem is partially at my end Tim - I'm doing code replacement to get the names into the IPTC in PhotoMechanic which is where the problem with the accented characters is occurring. Apostrophes are coming up ok in PM though, so that still apears to be a Photocart or Dave's Uploader related problem

I've got it sorted now Tim. PhotoMechanic needed the IPTC info in UTF-8 format. Once I changed that it started to work. Thanks for your help

Looks like I spoke too soon. As a test I edited the IPTC to have ????? ????? in the instructions field. That's how it reads in Lightroom Photoshop and PhotoMechanic but when I upload it I get ????? ?????

I've been doing some work on this - it looks as though it's a character set problem with the IPTC info.
